Summary[edit]

Description

Vermillion. Ford had been producing factory made pickup trucks since 1925. These 'Jailbar' Pickups, built from 1942-47 looked nothing like the Ford passenger cars of the time. They only had the running rear in common. Focus was on functionality rather than style with quite spartan interiors. Pickups from 1933-39 had their own styling too, but the 1940/41 Pickups go the front sheet metal from the passenger cars. The 'Jailbar' pickups got a flatter, more contemporary look, headlamps were completely faired in and mounted inboard of fender-end parking lights, while a heavy hood molding and side hood louvers were adopted. They were available in 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton and 1 1/2 ton, also Cab Over (COE). Options included rear shocks, a heater, right-hand wiper, right-side taillamp, sliding rear window, duck-covered seats, and an oil bath air cleaner. Production was interrupted in 1943 by World War II, but resumed in 1946-47 pretty much unchanged (A chrome bar was added to the side of the hood in 1946)
