Summary

[edit]
Description

The 1952-54 Fords got refreshed styling, a slightly less rounded shape, now with a one piece windshield, simple grille and small round taillights. A new OHV 6 cylinder engine was introduced in 1952 and the old flathead V8 was replaced by the OHV Y block V8 in 1954. For 1953, the centre grille bullet lost its ring and was now flanked by vertical black stripes, while the corner markers were plain rectangular lights rather than the circular 'intakes'. Power assisted brakes and power steering was available in 1953. The base model was the Mainline, available in 2 or 4 door sedan, coupe and 2 door Ranch wagon. Mid spec was the Customline available in 2 or 4 door sedan, coupe and 4 door Country wagon. They got stainless steel window surrounds and side strip, also carpet inside. Top was the Crestline, available as the Sunliner Convertible, Victoria Hardtop (with convertible style roof line) and Country Squire Woody Wagon. The 1952-54 Fords were also produced in Australia, available there was the V8 Customline Sedan, and unique to Australia, the V8 Mainline Coupe Utility (using the chassis from the US convertible). These Australian cars were built with extra ground clearance.
