Summary

[edit]
Description

Saffron Yellow / Tuxedo Black. Edsel Ford introduced the Mercury in 1939 as a model to fill the gap between the basic Ford, and the luxury Lincoln. The first Monterey was introduced in 1950 as a high-end 2 door coupe as part of the Mercury Eight series. Mercury got a styling and engineering redesign for 1952. The Monterey became a separate series, it was Mercury's top model, the Custom, the base model. 1955 saw another new design, the second generation, longer, wider and lower, canted headlights gave it a forward rake. Bodies were still shared with Ford, but longer from the windscreen forward. 1956; The Mercury name moved from the front edge of the hood, to on the bumper, side stainless steel trim updated. In 1956 the base Custom was available in 2 or 4 door Sedan, 2 or 4 door Hardtop, Convertible and Wagon. Next, the Medalist in 2 or 4 door Sedan and 2 or 4 door Hardtop. Then the Monterey in 2 or 4 door Hardtop, 4 door Sedan or Wagon Top was the Montclair, in 2 or 4 door hardtop, Convertible and 4 door Sedan.

Engine; The new 188hp 292 cu in Y block V8 from the Tbird. (235hp 312 Y block V8 in 1956)
