Wolseley Motors was founded in 1901. Bought out by Morris Motors in 1927. Morris Motors merged with the Austin Motor Company in 1952 to form BMC (British Motor Corporation), they sold Morris, Austin, Wolseley, Riley and MG cars. The new styled cars introduced by BMC at this time shared bodies and engines The 1948-53 Wolseley 4/50 shared its body with the Morris MO (1476cc 4 cyl) the Morris got a snub nose and wide grille, the Wolseley long nose with tall narrow grille The 1948-54 Wolseley 6/80 shared its body with the Morris MS Six (2200cc 6 cyl) only the grilles differed. The 1953-56 Wolseley 4/44 (1250cc 4 cyl) update was the 1956-58 Wolseley 15/50 (1489cc 4 cyl) shared its body, except the boot and rear wings with the MG Magnette, the Wolseley got a single carb, the MG twin carb The 1954-59 Wolseley 6/90 (2639cc 6 cyl) shared its body with the 1953-57 Riley Pathfinder (2443cc 4 cyl) and 1958-59 Riley 2.6 (2639cc 6 cyl) The Riley Pathfinders grille opened with the bonnet whereas the Wolseley 6/90 and Riley 2.6 were fixed. The 1957 Mk II 6/90 got the walnut dash and floor change, the Mk III got a larger back window and power brakes |
