| Description |
These smaller Austin Healeys, the Sprites were built from 1958-71, this the 1958-61 Mk I, was commonly known as the 'Frogeye' Sprite in the UK or 'Bugeye' Sprite in the US, because of its distinctive headlights mounted on top of the bonnet. The bonnet and guards were one piece and hinged at the back. There were no door handles and no boot, access to the luggage area was tilting the seat forward. It used the engine from Austin A35 and Morris Minor but with twin SU Carbs; 948cc 4 cyl Later Sprites got a more conventional looking front, headlights in the guards and a squarer, wider grille. |
