| Description |
The Chrysler Valiant was built in Australia from 1962-81. This the R Series was the first Valiant to be built in Australia, but only from January 1962 to March 1962, when replaced by the updated S Series. 1008 R Series Valiants were built. Completely knocked down (CKD) packs were imported from Windsor in Canada, bodies painted and assembled in Australia. Only available as a 4 door sedan, it was introduced to take on the EK Holden and the XK Falcon, the Valiant was more advanced in many ways, faster and more reliable. The others were only 138 and 144 cu in and manual transmission with column shift, the new Valiant had more power, a floor shift with a push button auto option, the Valiant was the first of the 3 to have an alternator instead of a generator.
