From 1962, Fords mainstream cars were available in three sizes; Introduced in 1962, was the compact Falcon, the intermediate sized Fairlane was 16 inches longer than the Falcon and the full size Galaxie was another 12 inches longer than the Fairlane. For 1964, Fairlanes had a flatter grille again with seven vertical bars, the tail fins were gone. 2 and 4 door Sedans were again available and the pillarless Hardtop Coupe. Base model was the Fairlane, in 2 and 4 door Sedans. The upmarket Fairlane 500 got a better interior and more chrome, available in 2 and 4 door Sedans and Hardtop Coupe. The top Sports Coupe option, with bucket seats and console was available on both the pillared and pillarless coupes. Wagons were the Ranch and Ranch Custom. The 4 door sedan was also assembled in Australia from 1962-64. They replaced the 59-61 'Tank Fairlanes' that were also assembled there. These new smaller Fairlanes were known as the 'Compact Fairlanes'. 1344 FD Fairlanes were produced in Australia in 1964. Engines available in the US; 170 cu in 6 cyl, 164hp 260 and 195hp 289 cu in V8s Engine in Australian Fairlane; 164hp 260 cu in Windsor V8. |
