| Description |
The Toyota Crown was first introduced in 1955 as Toyota's larger saloon. The first model was the 1955-62 S30 1453cc 4 cyl updated to 1897cc in 1960, available in 4 door sedan and wagon The next model was the 1962-67 S40, dramatically restyled with a grille similar to the 1960 Imperial and dual headlights. The 4 cyl was replaced in 1965 with a 1988cc 6 cyl. A Coupe Utility now available The 1967-71 S50 got another restyle, the grille more linear, in 1969 a facelift a 2253cc 6 cyl available. The fourth model was the 1971-74 S60, a more rounded car with flush bumpers and that unique look; the front edge of the hood stepped back, rounding into the guards Not only built in Japan, but from the S40-S60 were also assembled in Australia, from CKD kits, by AMI in Port Melbourne. Initially, in 1963 the Toyota Tiara was assembled there, then later, Corollas, Coronas and Crowns The S60-S80 assembled in New Zealand by Steel Brothers |
