Description
English: An incomplete copper-alloy Roman brooch Trumpet brooch of the late 1st-late 2nd century. The head of the brooch is oval in plan and has a groove around the outer edge. There is the remnant of a projection on top of the head. The axis bar is housed within a cylindrical casing on the back of the head. There is a slot for the hinged copper alloy pin, only a trace of which survives. At the centre of the bow there are two sets of three mouldings with a devolved petal moulding between. The lower bow and foot are missing. The foot of the brooch has a pair of vertical ribs. The underside of the bow is flat and there is the remnant of a catchplate at the bottom. The brooch measures 28.5mm long, by 10.3mm wide at the head, is 13.3mm deep and weighs 4.59g.
