Deutsch: 28.04.2011 04736 Waldheim: Ev.-Luth. Stadtkirche St. Nicolai (GMP: 51.070043,13.023807). 1832 zerstörte ein Brand die Stadtkirche auf dem Marktplatz. Die neue Kirche St. Nicolai wurde auf dem Kellerberg stark vom damaligen klassizistischen Stil beeinflusst. Sie wurde vom Baumeister Ch. F. Uhlig aus Altenhain bei Chemnitz erbaut. Die Einweihung war 1842. Das gesamte Kirchenschiff, ein lichtdurchfluteter Saal, ist von Emporen umgeben. Auf der Altarseite enthalten die Emporen verglaste Betstuben. Mit 1800 Sitzplätzen ist die Waldheimer Kirche eine der größten evangelischen Predigtkirchen des 19. Jahrhunderts. Die aus korinthischen Säulen gebildete Altarwand gestaltete Uhlig nach einer Vorlage des Göttinger Landbaumeisters Georg Heinrich Borheck.
