Title
2011 T311 Gold ring
Description
English: Treasure Case: 2010 T311 High Laver: Gold finger ring

Date of Discovery: 23/04/11

Circumstances of discovery: Whilst searching with a metal detector

Date:

Description: Gold ring formed twisted gold wire. There are two double strands of twisted gold wire, which have been further twisted together to make a four stranded twist. The ends have been twisted and flattened together before solder has been applied.

Dimensions: Diameter 18.47mm. Thickness 1.58mm. Weight 1.12 grams.

Discussion:

Stefanie White (conservator at Colchester & Ipswich Museums) has commented that the solder has a silver base and further analysis at the British Museum indicated that it is an alloy of silver, zinc and copper.

Sue la Niece (conservation, British Museum) she stated:"The metal composition is very odd for any period and the white hard -solder could well be modern. My guess is that it is modern - someone's jewellery making exercise? It is hand made wire, but badly made and very clean."

Disposition: Not Treasure. To be returned to Finder.
