Deutsch: 06.03.2012 08396 Waldenburg, Peniger Straße 10: Schloß (GMP: 50.875155,12.605512). Die Burg Waldenburg wurde um 1170 durch die Herren von Wartha gegründet, die sich nachfolgend von Waldenburg nannten. 1375 erwarben die Herren von Schönburg die Herrschaft Waldenburg. 1556-1565 errichtete Hugo I. von Schönburg westlich der alten Burg ein neues Schloß in Renaissanceformen, welches fortan als Residenz diente. Während der Revolution von 1848 wurde das Schloß am 5. April 1848 zerstört. 1855-1859 wurde nach Plänen des Leipziger Architekten Eduard Pötzsch ein Neubau im Stile der Tudorgotik errichtet. Daraus entstand 1909-1912 durch Umbau das heutige Schloß. Fürst Victor Otto II. von Schönburg-Waldenburg engagierte hierfür den Dresdner Hofarchitekten Gustav Frölich. Mit der Bodenreform wurde der Grundbesitz, zusammen 4.455 Hektar Ackerland und Wald, enteignet. 1948 wurde in der Fürstenresidenz eine Lungenheilstätte eröffnet, aus der später ein Krankenhaus hervorging. 1998 wurde das Krankenhaus geschlossen.
