Title
2016-T403 : DUR-9A0E79 : Silver Cufflink
Description
English: A complete silver Cufflink of Post-Medieval date (AD 1662-1700). The object is circular in plan with angled flange around the edge and is decorated with crown above two hearts in low relief reserved on a stippled field (Lewis form 1, Type A). On the reverse is a retained wire loop which would have had wire links attaching the object to a second, matching disk. Traces of iron corrosion adhere to the reverse of the object.

Diameter: 15.04mm, Thickness: 4.77mm, Weight: 0.8g

Similar examples can be seen on the Portable Antiquities Database: LVPL-6C988B, NMS-3C11C7 and NMS-1F8FB6

The object is a well-known type. The crowned hearts may refer to the marriage of Charles II to Catherine of Braganza in 1662.
