Description
English: The Basilica of St. Mary, is a minor basilica and parish church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Arlington, Virginia, and is located at 310 South Royal Street between Wolfe and Duke Streets in Old Town, Virginia. The parish was founded in 1795 by Francis Ignatius Neale, S.J. as the firt Catholic parish in Virginia. The first Church of St. Mary was located at Church and South Washington Streets and was completed in 1796. When the parish moved, this land became its cemetery, the first Catholic cemetery in Virginia.

The current church lot was purchased in 1810, and the major part of the church was erected in the Gothic Revival style by 1826. It is the oldest Roman Catholic church in Virginia.
