Description
Nederlands: Detail van een afgietsel van het sarcofaagdeksel van Chrodoara van Amay (ca. 560-voor 634), stichteres van de Abdij (later kapittel) van Amay, gefotografeerd in het Centre Charlemagne in Aken. De sarcofaag werd in 1977 aangetroffen onder het priesterkoor van de collegiale kerk van Sint-Joris en Sint-Oda in Amay. Het origineel bevindt zich in diezelfde kerk. Het deksel uit Lotharingse kalksteen is 1,84 m lang. De breedte varieert tussen 30 en 60 cm. Het bas-reliëf, met o.a. een afbeelding van Chrodoara als abdis, wordt gedateerd op de 1e helft van de 8e eeuw en behoort tot de belangrijkste voorbeelden van Merovingische beeldhouwkunst.
