Title
292 BERK-5D8274: Roman Zoomorphic brooch
Description
English: A Roman copper alloy zoomorphic plate brooch in the form of a bird in flight. The back is possibly complete but both wing tips are damaged. To the reverse the curl of the catch plate is missing, as is the pin. The wings are filled with orange enamel and two separate cells, the longer (oval) of which is missing on both sides. The smaller (circle) is black enamel. The body has stamped C-shaped feather imitative decoration. The triangular tail is divided in two. Both cells have remains of turquoise enamel with a red dot enamel at the centre. To the reverse are two D-shaped lugs with iron corrosion (from axis bar or pin). The end of the tail has tiny transverse lines decoration.
