Title
323 powder flask cap.JPG
Description
English: Powder holder cap
 Post Medieval, 17th century
Length 30mm, width 13mm, height 19mm

Oval shaped and made from sheet lead alloy, there is a pronounced seam running down one the side of cap where the sheet has welded together to make a solid wall. The top is solid and narrower that the base, which is hollow. There would has originally been two loops on the side at the top edge, these are missing.

The object is a thick covering of powdery lead corrosion products. Where these have flaked away they have exposed metal underneath which is a dull grey. These are generally associated with the Civil War. The object has been slightly crushed so that the sidewalls are much closer that they would have been originally

This would have been the cap that fitted on the end of a powder holder, which would in turn have been connected to a bandolier by two cords that also passed through the two loops on the powder cap (Paul Courtney, Small Arms Accessories of the Mid-Seventeenth Century).
