Summary[edit]

Description
English: 330-PS-9329 (428-GX-USN 1039206): “Buddy” system of in-flight refueling has been adopted by the new units in the U.S. Navy’s Sixth Fleet. Two aircraft of the same type jointly carry out an assigned mission. Prior to completing the mission, one “buddy” passes a portion of his remaining fuel to the other, who completes the mission. The tanker-plane then returns to his base on the carrier. Using this method of in-flight refueling, the aircraft’s operational range is considerably extended. An A4D-2 “Skyhawk” of Attack Squadron 96, based on board USS Randolph (CVA 15), background, is shown refueling a companion aircraft with operating in the Mediterranean. (10/21/2014).
