English:

Cast copper alloy socketed knife fragment. The remaining fragment consists of the socket and lower section of the blade. The socket is oval in cross section, it is 30mm long and 22.5mm, wide (internal dimension of the aperture 19mm long, 11mm wide). The sides of the sockets are slightly concave creating a narrowed waist that is 19.5mm wide. There is a single rivet hole in the centre of the socket. The remainder of the blade is 32mm long, this represents the lower part of the blade only. The sides narrow towards the tip suggesting that the blade may have originally been leaf-shaped. In section the blade has a slight curve, this is not post depositional damage but part of the original casting and similar to examples such as GLO-5E5633 and CORN-87C1E1, which both have a blades that are curved in section creating a U-shape. The bend in the blade is intentional, Evens suggests that such tools were used for woodworking, perhaps for hollowing out (1881, 209).
