In 1633 veroverde Matthias van Ceulen het in 1597 gebouwde fort Reis Magos op de Portugezen. Het fort werd omgedoopt tot Fort Ceulen en zou tot 1654 in Nederlandse handen blijven.

In 1633 Matthias van Ceulen captured the fort of Reis Magos built in 1597 from the Portuguese. The fort was renamed Fort Ceulen and was to stay in Dutch hands until 1654.
