Incendia Molarum Praefecturae Omnium Sanctorum.

Legenda: A. Fluvius. / B. Loca exscensionis Belgarum. / C. Molae sacchareae. / D. Domicilia laboratorum.

The WIC occupied All Souls' Bay for a short time in 1624, but soon lost it to the Portuguese. In 1638 Johan Maurits of Nassau was despatched by the company once more to take this most important Portuguese settlement in Brazil. However the Dutch only succeeded in conquering a number of forts on the outskirts of the city. This print shows the battle of 1638.
