Title
AWL
Description
English: Description by Nicholas Thomas:

This is a piercer.

The proximal left and right margins have been retouched from the ventral face to form a piercer. The point is perhaps damaged or worn. The ventral right distal margin shows possible use wear.

The flint is grey in colour with red cortex. It is probably derived from a local beach pebble but this is unclear even with primary cortex cortex.

MERCER (1981) illustrates a similar piece on Page 135 Fig 59 No L151 and L156 and Page 137 Fig 60 No L159 and L172, which he calls piercers and dates to the Neolithic period. Similar pieces can be found in Butler (2005) Fig 45, No 3, Fig 67, No 4, Fig 71 No 2.
