Title |
A Medieval buckle frame. |
||
Description |
English: A Medieval buckle frame dating to c. AD 1250-1400. This is a copper-alloy single oval loop buckle frame with ornate leading edge and narrowed offset strap-bar. See Whitehead, R. 2003, p.21, no.78. It weighs 4.42g, has a length of 18.1mm, width of 23.1mm and maximum thickness of 5.6mm. The pin is missing. The arms of the frame have an oval cross-section measuring 2.0mm with a thickness of 2.3mm and 2.2mm with a thickness of 2.9mm. The frame's leading edge is formed of four oval spheres. These have a length axis of 6.4mm and thickness of 5.6mm. While they are almost equal in size, the outer two spheres have a slightly more oval shape compared to the more circular spheres that are slightly smaller in size. The outer oval spheres angle outwards giving the leading edge a flared apearance. The offset bar has a circular cross-section with a diameter of 2.1mm. The circular cross-sectioned part of the bar accounts for 12.4mm on the width axis of the frame. The corners above and below are more angular and increase the bar to a measurement of 16.6mm on the width axis and have a thickness of 2.9mm. |
