Title
A Roman copper alloy pin, dating from the 1st to the 4th centuries A.D.
Description
English: A Group 3 (sub group B) copper alloy hair pin. The the pin is decorated by two curved units separating the shank and the head. There is also a second set of curved units separating the main body of the head from a knob at the the end of the pin. Cool (1990: 154) states that dating evidence suggests that this type of pin was produced through out the Roman period, as they have been found in first to fourth century deposits. It is interesting to know however that the pins found in fourth century contexts are broken, and so could be residual implying that production of this sub group stopped before the fourth century (Cool, 1990: 154). The measurement for the diameter of the head is 4.19mm, and the diameter of the shank is 2.9mm.
