A base sherd of Roman pottery of perhaps a colour-coated ware vessel dating from the Roman period, i.e. c. AD43-410, probably the 2nd or 3rd century. |

Description |
English: A base sherd of Roman pottery of perhaps a colour-coated ware vessel dating from the Roman period, i.e. c. AD43-410, probably the 2nd or 3rd century. The vessel (probably a small cup) was made from cream-coloured fabric and tempered with sand and small pieces of grit. It was then colour-coated with a patchy-looking reddish/black/orangey slip which is now cracked and missing in places. This kind of decoration is typical for vessels produced in the Nene Valley. The length is 50mm, width 45mm, height 15mm and the weight is 35.68g. |
