Title
A cast copper alloy annular buckle, dating to the 14th/ 15th century.
Description
English: A cast copper alloy annular buckle (diameter of frame: 45.9mm; thickness of frame section: 5mm; length of pin: 51.5mm; width of pin: 5.1mm; weight: 36.59g). A large undecorated annular frame with the pin still attached with the hooked end curled over the frame. There is a rectangular-shaped raised platform (just after the pin straightens out) with small incised multiple crossing lines. This is the only decoration on the buckle. The end of the pin tapers of slightly and there is a groove on the underside, probably to help the pin rest on the frame. It may also be due to wear and tear. Overall, the buckle is in a slightly worn but fair condition with a smooth dark green-brown patina.

Similar examples are illustrated in Egan & Pritchard's 'Dress Accessories: Medieval Finds from Excavations in London', pages 57-8, Fig 36, Ref nos 31, 32, 36 & 38. All these examples have been dated from 1350-1400 AD.
