Title
A cast copper alloy possible shoe or knee buckle, dating to c. 1700 AD.
Description
English: A cast copper alloy asymmetrical single loop frame, possible shoe or knee buckle (length: 26.9mm; width: 26mm; thickness: 1.7mm; weight: 3.26g). The buckle has some crude linear decoration curving outwards towards the sides of the frame, as well as three incised marks on the end in the centre. The frame is the only part of the buckle surviving. There is no pin or possible spur chape.

The overall condition of this buckle is poor with extensive amounts of corrosion and wear, particularly along the strap bar and the opposite end. The patina has a green/ brown colour.

Similar examples are illustrated in R. Whitehead's 'Buckles' book, particularly Ref No 597, page 97.
