Title
A complete cast copper alloy possible zoomorphic penannular buckle or brooch, probably dating from the 16th-18th century AD.
Description
English: A complete cast copper alloy open zoomorphic penannular buckle/ brooch with horse head terminals (77mm x 78.1mm; thickness: 5.8mm; weight: 47.40g). Of a roughly 'U' shape, this artefact has a central bar (length: 56.9mm) passing across the centre with a slight constriction in the middle for a possible pin (now missing)? The horse head termianls are very realistic with mane, eyes, mouth and nostrils clearly defined. A strange artefact has no parallels or similar examples as yet, but it would probably date to the 17th/ 18th century AD and is slight worn but in a fair condition with a dark green patina.
