Title
A copper-alloy blade of Bronze Age date
Description
English: An incomplete and small copper-alloy blade of Bronze Age date, probably a knife. Part of the butt end and the blade survive, the tip of both ends missing due to old breaks. The butt end is rectangular in form, oval sectioned and has the remains of two circular rivet holes at the incomplete end. On each side it has two semi-circular notches. The blade is short, triangular in form, oval sectioned and tapers towards a now missing tip. All surfaces have a worn and pitted dark brown patina that shows signs of corrosion in places. It measures 57.28mm in length, 18.43mm in width, 2.18mm in thickness and 7.50g in weight.

This is a small blade, probably a knife, of Bronze Age date. The blade finds is reminiscent of Early Bronze Age knives, however the form of the tang and the notches is perhaps closer to Middle Bronze Age examples, with no direct parallel as yet identified. It is likely to date to between the Early and Middle Bronze Ages, c.2150-1150 BC.
