Title
A post medieval lead alloy alnage cloth seal of George I (AD 1714-1727).
Description
English: A Post Medieval lead alloy alnage cloth seal of George I (AD 1714-1727). The seal consists of two discs connected by a rectangular strip. It is impossible to say whether the original seal consisted of two or four discs. One disc depicts the bust of the king, in profile facing right. The inscription reads FIDEI DEFEN (defender of the faith). There is a radiating border around the edge of the disc. The other face depicts a rose and thistle, surmounted by a crown. There is a 1 to the left of the crown and 1/2 to the right - indicating the duty in pence.

A parallel can be found in Egan (1994, no. 158) and several examples can be found on the PAS database: SWYOR-1CCC94 and HAMP-8E86A8

Dimensions: Bust disc diameter: 14.21 mm; Thistle disc diameter: 14.54 mm; thickness: 1.53 mm; weight: 3.08g.
