Title
a post medieval lead alloy knife handle
Description
English: A cast lead alloy knife end cap (probably), dating from the Post Medieval period, between AD 1550 - 1750 length: 28.12mm width: 12.41mm thickness: 11.37mm; and weights 28.93

The knife handle is rectangular in plan and oval in section. The handle is decorated with two circumferential lines running round the handle and seven longitudinal lines forming a square patten. The top of the handle is larger and bends to one side. Where the handle has been broken there is evidence of ferrous corrosion in the cross section Overall, the artefact is incomplete with only the top section surviving. It is worn but in a fair condition with a light grey patina.

Examples in copper alloy are more common than lead alloy: NARC-E26262, <a href="../../../database/artefacts/record/id/437927">HAMP-314B45</a> and <a href="../../../database/artefacts/record/id/424111">SF-DA9B20</a> for example.
