Title
A post medieval leather incomplete shoe, dating to the late 16th-early 17th century
Description
English: A post medieval leather incomplete shoe with rounded toe, dating to the late 16th-early 17th century. There are ten separate elements that fit together to form this almost complete welted construction shoe. The insole is in three pieces and is incomplete, the toe and part of the body is missing. The outer sole is missing. There is a piece of the welt present and two fragments which fit in the heel providing a little bit of a build up for the heel. There are two quarters that form the back of the shoe, these are decorated with small s-shaped cuts arranged in lines to form a pattern. On each quarter there is a latchet (strap) with a hole near the end for lacing. The lace is missing. There is a fragment of a toe puff that has been stitched, puffed and gathered. The vamp (toe) is almost complete but the tip and part of the edges are missing. The upper surface is decorated with slashing and pinking. There are small s-shaped cuts forming a cross-hatched pattern. There is a s-shaped cut in the centre of each of the diamond shapes formed by the cross-hatching.

Dimensions: length: 237.07 mm; width: 67.36 mm; thickness: 1.79 mm; weight: 123.04 g.
