Description

Le fort et les temples de Maheshwar au bord du fleuve Narmada, au premier plan un cénotaphe

Maheshwar est une ville de l'état de Madhya Pradesh, dans le centre de l'Inde sur la rive nord de la rivière Narmada, qui est un fleuve sacré pour les hindous.

De nombreux pèlerins et des sadhu se rendent ou vivent sur les ghats de Maheshwar et dans les temples qui s'y trouvent.

Le fort renferme plusieurs temples dédiés à Shiva ainsi que le palais, édifiés par la reine Ahilyabai Holkar (1767-1795), qui est vénérée dans la région comme une sainte. Un hôtel a été ouvert dans le fort par le descendant de la dynastie Holkar.
