| Description |
A Blendecques (France), dans le fleuve Aa, dans les années 1985-1990, les sédiments constitués ici principalement des rejets chroniques d'une papeterie à la station d'épuration de capacité insuffisante et dysfonctionnant, offrent un habitat au chironome plumeux, dont des milliards de larves creusent des galeries où ils se nourrissent. Cette larve est l'un des rares organismes invertébrés (avec une sangsue et des tubifex) à survivre dans les sédiments très chargés en matière organique en décomposition). En aérant la vase elles contribuent au processus d’auto-épuration et à la transparence de l'eau. |
