Acacia ataxacantha debarked by Cape porcupine

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Flame thorn (Acacia ataxacantha) debarked by Cape porcupine (Hystrix africaeaustralis) at Skeerpoort, North West. Porcupines are said to prefer to feed on bark of broadleaved species rather than acacias or sickle bush. The grey cortex bark was eaten while leaving behind strips of light brown phloem bark under the trunk. The yellow cambium layer is almost untouched.
