Description
English: The active support system for the SOAR primary mirror is ready, and awaits the completed mirror. One hundred and twenty electromechanical force-feedback actuators support the 4.3 meter diameter, 10 centimeter thin, ULE glass face sheet, and control the correct surface figure as the telescope points around the sky. See the June 2003 NOAO Newsletter (currently only available in PDF format).
