Object history |
Edmund E. Bates, Minneapolis, Minnesota;[1] purchased by MIA in 1944. [1] Various correspondence and memos dated throughout 1944 indicated that the painting was initially offered for sale to General Mills, Inc., who turned the work down. Edmund Bates worked for the General Casualty Company, Minneapolis; in one letter he mentions that his brother, Gordon Bates, owns four or five similar 'Minneapolis' pictures by Fournier (see 'Lowry Hill, Minneapolis', 50.14). |
