Description

Amber Aguilera, Fish and Wildlife Biologist Credit: USFWS

Amber Aguilera, Fish and Wildlife Biologist, Sacramento Fish and Wildlife Office, Sacramento, Calif.

Female Conservation Hero? Rachel Carson.

Where did you go to school? UC- Davis.

How did you get interested in conservation? I have always had an appreciation for the diversity of habitats and species that have evolved on Earth. My interest in conservation comes from this appreciation because if we can conserve a species or habitat for others to appreciate in the future, future generations may feel the obligation to conserve too.

What’s your favorite species and why?

My favorite species is the delta smelt. The delta smelt was once the most abundant pelagic fish in the delta and is an important indicator species for the health of the delta. Plus, they smell like cucumbers….how cool is that!
