Detail Scheepvaarthuis, Prins Hendrikkade, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Two of six sculptures by Hildo Krop representing the Amsterdam shipping companies that occupied the building. Left: the Koninklijke Nederlandse Stoomboot-Maatschappij (KNSM). Right: the Nieuwe Rijnvaart Maatschappij (NRM), a subsidiary of KNSM. The Shipping House was the headquarters of six leading Amsterdam shipping companies. It is regarded as the first true example of the Amsterdam School style. Arch. Johan Godart, Adolf Daniel Nicholas van Gendt, Johan van der Mey, Michel de Klerk and Piet Kramer 1912-16 and 1926-28. It now houses the Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam. |
