Title
An Early Medieval (Anglo Saxon) copper alloy hooked tag (10th – 11th century).
Description
English: An Early Medieval (Anglo Saxon) copper alloy hooked tag (10th – 11th century). The hooked tag has a thin circular-shaped plate with the hook projecting from one edge. On the opposing edge there is a rounded lobe with no sign of perforation, this was possibly one of a pair as there is a broken edge slightly further along the round edge. The front surface is decorated with an interlace pattern.

Similar hooked tags were recorded at Meols and dated 10th -11th century; the forms are broadly similar but there was no identical parallel for the decoration (Griffiths, Philpott & Egan (2007:65, 73 pl 9).

Dimensions: Diameter of plate: 22.20mm; length: 38.39mm; thickness: 0.95mm; weight: 1.75g.
