Title
An incomplete copper-alloy 'unlooped shield pattern' palstave dating to the middle Bronze Age 1500 – 1150BC from the ActonPark phase metalwork.
Description
English: An incomplete copper-alloy 'unlooped shield pattern' palstave dating to the middle Bronze Age 1500 - 1150BC from the ActonPark phase metalwork. The axe has a flared cutting edge and would have had a rectangular butt which is now broken with an irregular line suggesting that it was broken in antiquity. The axe has a shield-shaped undecorated hollow located on either side of the stop ridge. The sides of the butt are triangular in plan and there is no stop rib between the stop ridge and raised flange. The axe has a pronounced flare of the blade suggesting that it was broken not too long after it had been cast as it does not appear to have ben re-sharpened many times. The axe has a dull green-brown patina. The axe measures 155mm long and is 80mm wide.
