Title |
Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch, lead, possible, Greetwell, Lincs. |
||
Description |
English: Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch, lead. Incomplete lead object which may have formed part of lead cruciform brooch. The object is flat and in the form of a face with scroll-like hair or moustache, depending on which way round the face is viewed. The eyes are large pellets, beneath which is a triangular shaped snout or forehead. The edges of the object is very worn and so it is hard to determine where it is broken. Its back is plain and there are no obvious signs of attachment. The fragment looks similar to the animal-headed foots seen on Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooches. |
