Notes Part of the Charles Ramsden Collection of Signed Bindings. Signed by L. Janet, with a similar slip-case. Macchi states; Metz, bound by François Grosclaude. Born at Metz february 2 1768, he set up in at "au bas de la rue des Jardins". Later in 1818 he moved to Place St. Jacques. He died on February 25 1835. Three of his works are in the Mortimer L. Schiff collection (S. de Ricci, French signed bindings, III, n. 218-220). His son, Pierre-Napoléon, born in Metz May 7 1808, was also a binder (C. Ramsden, French Bookbinders, p. 98). Panel-stamp signed by L. Janet. A similar, probably Milanese trade binding, is to be seen at shelfmark Davis 834. The Milanese Sormani Central Library keeps an unpublished trade binding provided with a golden plaque reproducing the Peace Arch (pressmark RP 75) with at the bottom, the editor's name and address.
