Description
English: Annotated drawing of Greenwich Pier with a view of the Hospital buildings

A pencil sketch looking east across the front of the Royal Naval College from the west side of Greenwich Pier, dated 'Greenwich Septr 16/87' lower right. It shows the old double steps leading down to the floating pier pontoon, with a 'Daily News' advertising hoarding on the railing between. A paddle steamer is moored to the pontoon, at low tide. The Union flag flies over the Admiral President's House on the King Charles Court of the College and Hardy has included various colour notations on the drawing. The Bellot obelisk, for example, is marked 'red granite'.

This drawing is one of at least three that were probably made on the same occasion; see also PAF6251 and PAG9855, the latter being a study looking up from the pontoon to the viewpoint here.
