Title
Annular BUCKLE
Description
English: Cast copper-alloy three-piece buckle, plate and pin. Annular double-loop frame, with central bar integral with lower edge, onto which the folded rectangular plate is attached. The plate has two median rivet holes and is slightly waisted. The back-plate is short and tapers strongly and would not have extended beyond the first rivet, although its end is broken. The buckle frame is recessed for the cast copper-alloy pin which is circular with a pointed extension which rests on the outer edge of the frame. The circular element of the pin has a circular recess at the centre, which may originally have held a setting, now missing. Traces of thick gilding survive on all surfaces of the frame and pin and on the upper surface of the plate. Red/brown patina.

This is an example of a disc-on-pin buckle, whose use is uncertain as the disc would prevent the pin passing through the hole in the strap. Another example with a surviving plate is SWYOR-C23EA8.
