Title
Annular brooch
Description
English: Fragment of an annular brooch. The brooch is circular in cross-section and has bead-and-reel decoration all the way round. Brooches such as this type have a mainly Anglian distribution and are common in Lincolnshire. This type of brooch belongs to Leeds' Type F, and were in use throughout the early Anglo-Saxon period, surviving the change in dress that occured towards the end of the 6th century, continuing into the 7th century AD. Alternatively, this fragment could be part of a suspension ring from a chatelaine; a similar example from Icklingham in Suffolk is shown in MacGregor and Bolick 1993, no. 58.1.
