Summary[edit]

Description
English: Protective mimicry is a remarkable example of adaptive evolution. Armed with bites and stings and formic acid, ants can aggressively defend themselves. In contrast, ant mimicking jumping spiders are unable to do anything other than run on their eight legs when attacked. Not surprisingly, insect predators tend to prefer spiders over ants, so appearing to be an ant gives these spiders better protection.
