Description
English: On the 13th March 2015 a Service Of Commemoration took place at St Paul's Cathedral in London, to pay tribute to members of the Armed Forces who served and supported operations in Afghanistan.Chinook aircraft from RAF Odiham took part in a fly past of Aircraft used in operations, including Tornado and Hercules aircraft, as well as the Apache and Sea King helicopters.The parade took place in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen and other members of the Royal Family who reflected on the 453 Servicemen and Women whom lost their lives during the Campaign. The service at the Cathedral was followed by a p­arade of veterans and serving personnel, with HRH The Prince Of Wales taking the salute.Royal Air Force Odiham operates three Support Helicopter (SH) squadrons. The RAF operates the largest fleet of Chinook support helicopters after the US Army. The Chinook Wing, which forms the heavy-lift element of the Joint Helicopter Command, is based at RAF Odiham in Hampshire. Odiham supports three operational squadrons, No 7 Squadron, No 18 Squadron and No 27 Squadron, and the Operational Conversion Flight (OCF).The Apache Gunship, based out of Wattisham in Suffolk as part of 4 Regiment Army Air Corps, is a component of 16 Air Assault Brigades attack aviation. As well as service in Afghanistan, it also saw action in Libya against Colonel Gaddafis forces, operating from HMS Ocean. Armed with 16 Helfire Missiles and an impressive 30mm Canon, it is formidable in a close support ground attack role.Pictured: 4 Regiment Army Air Corps Apache in formation flying over London for the Afghanistan Commemorative Parade and Flypast.
