Description
English:

A cluster of mature apple trees grows in an open grassy area. Their leafy branches form a dense canopy.

Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site is significant for its association with the history of agriculture, modern ranching techniques and practices, and the development of the ranching industry on the Northern Plains. The landscape represents the Grant and Kohrs period of use, 1862 to 1919, and Conrad Warren's management of the ranch, between 1929 and 1958. The Grant-Kohrs cultural landscape includes nine component landscapes, including the upland pasture. The upland pasture area contains a cluster of four mature and prolific apple trees (Malus sp.), which mark the site of the historic Kading homestead (date/history unknown). The 2009 Cultural Landscape Report recommends protecting the tree cluster from livestock damage if necessary, using unobtrusive measures (e.g. post-and-wire fence).
