English: Apsopelix sp. - fossil fish from the Cretaceous of Kansas, USA. (public display, Sternberg Museum of Natural History, Hays, Kansas, USA)

From museum signage: "Streamlined fishes with fins distributed along the length of their bodies were well designed for continuous swimming. Apsopelix and other fishes probably roved over wide areas hunting for food."

Classification: Animalia, Chordata, Vertebrata, Osteichthyes, Actinopterygii, Crossognathiformes, Crossognathidae

Stratigraphy: unspecified Upper Cretaceous unit (probably the Smoky Hill Chalk of the Niobrara Formation)
